Folklore Museum

The Folklore Museum was set up in a 200 year old two-storey house. We cannot fail to be impressed from the moment we enter the parlour. Life-sized figures in local dress illustrate the social structure of the time. On the right-hand side of the parlour, are rare needlework samplers, weaving and the tools used for this craft.

We are fascinated by the workroom with its handloom, the kitchen, the bedroom, the cellar used for storing farm produce and the attic which has been transformed into an historical records office.

Minning Museum

In the entrance hall there is an impressive model showing how a volcano erupts and a large geological map of the island. There are illuminated panels showing mining today as well as tools and equipment from the mines and workshops of the past.

On the first floor there are display cabinets with rocks and minerals from other parts of Greece and with the most industrially significant minerals of Milos today. The trunk of a large tree is on display which was found in a bentonite quarry at Aggeria 28 metres below the surface and the age of which is estimated at more than 2,000 years.
