The town of Chios lies in the centre of the eastern coast of the island. It is the capital of the prefecture having approximately 25.000 inhabitants. The modern city is a bustling port and a shopping centre, not so picturesque or especially geared for foreign tourists. It is though a city that offers several diversions to those who like to visit a very traditional place.
