Archaeological Monument of Emporeios

Archaeological researches in the area of Profitis Ilias brought to light some remnants of settlement that date back roughly to the 8th century B.C. In the hill of Profitis Ilias, in height of 250 metres, the Citadel with the temple of Athina the Palace and some altars are found. Outside the citadel the main region of the settlement is found, with more than 50 houses, built in spacious flats.

Temple of Apollo

In the region Fana, archaeological researches brought to light ruins from the Holy Temple of God Apollo. The only things saved from the temple are some relics that date back to the 6th century B.C. and a department of its yard.

Daskalopetra

In the region of Brontado pretty close to the beach, one of the most famous monuments of the island is located. Despite the big damage the monument suffered, the archaeologists recognize in cubic height, in the back part of the rock, the features of a monolithic statue of Kyveli’s temple who was worshipped as Big Mother in ancient Chios. It is believed that there was the “teaching room” of the known poet Homer whose work has travelled thousands of years all over the world.
