KIMOLOS > OVERVIEW
Kimolos is a pretty island located in the south west of the Cyclades. It has 769 permanent residents and includes, administratively, the island of Polyegos. Kimolos was named Ehinousa, its current name came from Kimolo who according to legend was its first settler. During the Middle Ages it was occupied by the Venetians and was named Artzentiera.
The capital of the island is named Horio and is made up of the settlements of Paleo and Neo Horio. Most of the island’s residents live here and there are rooms to rent for visitors. The Archaeological, the Folklore and Naval Museums as well as churches from the 16th and 17th centuries are to be found in Horio. The harbour of Kimolos is located at Vathi which is just 1 km from Horio.
The island has splendid isolated beaches and is the ideal choice for those who want to have a quiet holiday, far from crowds and the noise of larger neighbouring islands.
