Lefkada Greek Islands Ionian Greece

Lefkada is part of the Eptanisa complex, located between Corfu and Kefalonia and very close to the coast of west mainland Greece. It is the fourth largest island of the Eptanisa complex with about 23,000 residents. Along with the islets of Meganisi, Kalamo, Kasto, Skorpio, Skorpidi, Madouri, Sparti, Thilia, Kythro and other smaller islets around them, compose the Prefecture of Lefkada.

The capital is Lefkada located in the north eastern point of the island, very close to mainland Greece to which it is connected through an elevated highway above Legkada canal and a shallow lagoon.

Sights worthy to be visited are the fortress of Agios Mavras, the lagoon, the Bosketo Park, the ruins of ancient Lefkada, the churches of the Venetian period, the monastery of the Panagia Faneromeni, the Lefkaditiki Library and the Museum of Gramophones and Old Mementos.

Lefkada has many picturesque beaches that are known for their aquamarine waters which make them the most beautiful not only in Greece but also all over the Mediterranean. Porto Katsiki is the most famous and rewarded beach in Greece and one of the most popular in the Mediterranean. The abrupt white rocks above the splendid sandy beach and turquoise waters create a picture of unique beauty. Some other beautiful beaches are those of Agios Nikitas, Kathisma, Ammoglossa, Lygia, Perigiali, Nikiana and many others.
