Can I travel with my car by the ferries of Lineas Romero?

Due to logistic issues and the capacity of our fleet, vehicles cannot go on board of the Líneas Romero ferries.

Pets

At Lineas Romero, we understand that pets are part of your family, which is why on our ships, you can travel with them for free in the passenger lounge or on deck.

It’s important to know that dogs must be on a leash during the entire ferry trip. A muzzle is only required for breeds considered to be potentially dangerous.

In addition, we’d like to give you some recommendation when travelling with your pets on our ferries, so your journey will be as pleasant as possible:

Check with your veterinarian

It’s always advisable to let your veterinarian know that you’re going on a trip with your pet, particularly if it’s its first time on a ship. This way, they can give you advice and give you valuable information to bear in mind according to your pet’s characteristics.

Vaccination

One of the most important aspects to consider is asking your veterinarian whether your pet needs a specific vaccine for the destination you’re going to. It’s crucial for you to check with your veterinarian well in advance, as vaccinations such as rabies may require you to wait up to 30 days to travel to allow the vaccine to take effect.

Minimise anxiety

Travelling by ferry may cause fear, anxiety or insecurity in your pet, particularly if it’s the first time that it’s using this means of transportation. Nevertheless, you can do some things to help mitigate these effects, such as:

  • After getting on the ferry, walk your pet around a bit, so it can familiarize itself with it and get a good sniff of the different areas.
  • If your pet will be in a carrier, try doing some dry runs at home. Go on short trips around your city with it, so it gets used to being inside the carrier.

Walk your dog

If you’re travelling with a dog, we recommend that you take it for a walk on the pier before boarding. It’s worth pointing out that there are some ferry terminals with a designated area for this purpose. Remember that on both that area and the ferry itself, dogs should always be on a leash and you will be responsible for cleaning up after them if they foul any of these areas.

Reduce motion sickness

Motion sickness is a common problem in smaller animals. Some of its symptoms are whining, listlessness, agitation, lethargy, drooling, dry heaving, vomiting and diarrhoea. If you see your pet experiencing any of these symptoms, check with your veterinarian so that they can prescribe medication to help your pet.

Please bear in mind that pets that eat more food or drink more water before travelling are more likely to experience motion sickness. The best thing to do is to avoid feeding them large meals before travelling and bringing water, so they can drink water on the ferry and avoid dehydration.

Now you’re ready to travel with your pet! We look forward to seeing you.
