Venice is a city known for its unique and intricate network of canals and islands. If you want to get to Venice's port area, there are a few transportation options depending on your starting point. If you're coming from other parts of Italy, you can arrive at Venice's primary train station, Venezia Santa Lucia. From here, you can reach the port by vaporetto, which is a water bus, or by foot if you're staying in the vicinity of the port. The port is relatively close to the train station. If you have a car or are renting one, you can reach Venice by road. However, it's important to note that vehicles are not allowed in the historical center of Venice. You can park your car in one of the parking lots on the mainland, such as Tronchetto or Piazzale Roma and then access the port by vaporetto or on foot. Once you arrive at the port area in Venice, you'll have access to several terminals and facilities, depending on the type of transportation you're using (cruise, ferry, or water bus).
Parking in Venice can be a challenge, especially in the historical city center, as the majority of the area is car-free. If you're looking for parking near the Venice port or cruise terminal, here are some options. Piazzale Roma is the main parking area in Venice, located at the entrance to the city. It's the closest parking option to the historical center and the Venice cruise terminal. There are several parking garages and lots in this area. You can park your car here and then use water transportation to reach the port. Tronchetto is a man-made island connected to the Venice city center by a bridge. It has large parking lots and is a common place for visitors to leave their cars. From Tronchetto, you can use the People Mover, an elevated tram, to reach the cruise terminal and other parts of the city. It's important to note that driving in Venice's historical center is discouraged and parking can be expensive. The city is designed to be explored on foot, by vaporetto (water bus), or by gondola and the majority of the historic center is car-free. If you choose to park your car, consider the convenience of Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, and then rely on water transportation to explore the city or reach your cruise terminal. Be prepared for parking fees and limited space, especially during the busy tourist season.
From the port Venice you can easily travel by ferry to the following islands: Corfu.
