Hora and its harbour are located on the east coast of the island. The town is amphitheatrically built, with closely cobbled alleys full flowers in pots, houses of rural architecture with old wooden hanging balconies, bridges that communicate one house with another, whitewashed lanes, even newer buildings have been built to reflect the rural architecture. In one of these old houses is where the poet Pavlos Nirvanas was born and spent his childhood.
There are 360 churches and chapels on Skopelos with 123 of them located in Hora. The churches of Evagelismos, Panagitsa and Agios Nikolaos are built on an abrupt rock. At the north of Hora are the ruins of the Venetian Castle that was built in the 13th century, as well as the church of Agios Athanassios that was built in the 9th century. The Folklore Museum and the Photographic Centre are located in the town as well as many traditional folk art shops offering handmade ceramics, clothes, jewellery and gifts as well as the services of Banks, Medical Centre of, Pharmacy, Post Office etc.
The characteristic kind hospitable nature of the residents will befriend you. There are many restaurants, tavernas, cafeterias and bars for evening entertainment and catering for all tastes.
Glossa is located on the north western coast of the island and is built on a hill above the harbour of Loutraki, 25 km far from Hora. The town has picturesque alleys with houses reflecting the local architecture. Glossa was inhabited in ancient times in prehistoric Selinounda. Here is a rare breed of sheep, Glosses of Skopelos, famed for the quality of its wool. The area is rich in olives, plums and vines. Fresh fish and seafood is available from the taverns in Loutraki. In the courtyard of the monastery of Agios Taxiarhis are the buildings of an early Christian chapel and the chapel of Agios Ioannis above the rock and the ancient Roman baths too.
Elios is a new village, near Old Klima, built in the greenest region of Skopelos where the forest reaches the sea. A new village was established in 1980 with the residents of old Klima, who progressively abandoned their old village and began to settle in the area of the magical, pine beach of Elios. Rich forests, endless beaches, the small picturesque harbour and newly built houses are elements of the new identity of the village of Neo Klima (Elios). The beach varies from sandy to pebble with crystal clear waters and the neighbouring beach of Hovolo where the sea takes the strangest colours with the fine golden sand. For those who love to walk there are the ancient graves of Sentoukia. The Byzantine chapel of Agios Ioannis is built on an enormous rock in the sea and to approach one has to climb the 107 steps. Finally, Old Klima is located 3 km away.
Old Klima is located in the north-west of the island between Elios and Glossa and 24 km from Hora. It is a verdant village, built amphitheatrically, with old stone houses that overlook the Aegean Sea. There is the Magdalini traditional bakery producing aromatic traditional bread. Klima is made up of two small settlements, Ano Klima and Lower Klima or Mahalas. The nearest beach is Elios. Most of the residents of Klima moved to the village of Elios. Most of the houses have been bought by foreigners and Greeks for use as rural residences.
