This monastery was built in the 16th century and played an important role in the revolution of 1822, but was destroyed by the Turks. It was restored by the monk Athanasios in 1880-90 while the last monk living there, died in 1983.
Every year on August 1, residents of Psara bring the icon of Kimisis of Theotokos to the town invocate in their homes where, after the vespers of Christ they take the icon back to the monastery.
