The city of Rhodes is the capital of the island and of the Prefecture of the Dodecanese located on its northern tip.

Its medieval city is built semi-circularly round the city of Rhodes. Walls, castles, galleries, fortresses and palaces reflect its history. The Medieval City is a World Heritage monument and is the largest and better maintained fortified city in Europe, with many Hellenic, Byzantine, medieval and Ottoman monuments.

Beyond the Old City, are the Kallitheas Loutra, the valley of the butterflies, Prophet Elia, Lindo with its castle and the Rodini Park.

Faliraki

Faliraki is considered one of the most cosmopolitan summer resorts in Rhodes. It is located just 12km from the island’s capital and distinguishes itself for its remarkable tourist infrastructure. It has one of the biggest and best-organized beaches in Greece. Water and extreme sports, a water park, famous clubs and thousands of tourists.

Among the sights the archaeological site located at Sarandapihos, close to village Kalithies stands out. It is believed to be part of the acropolis from archaic times. Erimokastro, near the sea, with ruins of the archaic wall and the old monastery of Prophet Amos is on a hill just outside Faliraki.

Ialisos

It is located 8km from the town of Rhodes, in the northwest part of the island. The region is of important archaeological interest as it has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the village of Trianta remains of a Minoan settlement have been discovered, while Myceanic cemeteries are found in the hills around.

The ancient town of Iallisos, one of the three largest ancient towns on the island, extends around Filerimos’ hill, where we find the acropolis with its monuments from the Ancient, Byzantine and Knight of St John periods. Worth visiting are the remains of Poliados Athenas’ temple, with engravings on the west side, which were used for religious purposes. Iallisos’ beach stands out for its natural beauty, cosmopolitan life and the options it offers visitors.

Afantou

The town of Afantou is the administrative centre of the municipality. It is located 2km south of the town. The settlement is built according to the traditional architecture of the island. Residents stay true to its traditions and are well known for their hospitality. Characteristics of this region include the lush greenery of the inner land and the long beaches that attract thousands of visitors every year.

Afantos Beach with its small pebbles and crystal clear waters is highly organized and has the appropriate facilities for all kind of sports. It is considered one of the densely populated on the island. Close to the beach is a modern golf course.
