Paroikia

Paroikia, or Hora as it is known by the locals, is the capital and the harbour of the island. Built in the centre of the western coast it constitutes the administrative and economic centre of Paros.

It is one of the most picturesque cities of the Cyclades. It is characterized by the white houses, flowering gardens, paved alleys and many beautiful chapels. Particularly impressive is the Venetian castle of the 13th century that is in the centre of the city.

In Hora you will find the church of the Madonna of Ekatontapylianis, one of the more important Byzantine monuments in Greece, Sacred Asklipiou and Pythiou Apollo, the ancient cemetery and the archaeological museum.

Naoussa

Naoussa is a traditional rocky village that is located on the northern coast of the island 10 km from the capital and has about 2,500 residents.

It is a busy tourist resort that maintains its traditional character. Its picturesque harbour is one of the most beautiful in the Aegean and is the centre of the night life on the island.

Notable monuments in the region are: the Venetian castle of the 14th century, the citadel of Koukounarion, the Byzantine and Post Byzantine Art Museum, the Folklore Museum, the church of Agios Nikolaos and the monastery of Logovardas.

Around Naoussa are many of the most popular beaches on the island such as Piperi, Monastiri, Kolymbithres, Santa Maria and Agios Anargyri.

Piso Livadi

Piso Livadi is a coastal settlement built round a small picturesque harbour that is east of the capital and 3 km from the village of Marpissa. During the summer months it has direct ferry connections to Ios, Naxos, Mykonos, Santorini, Amorgos, Antiparo, Delos and Koufonisia.

Notable sights of the area are: the church of Agios Georgios of Thalassiti, west of the settlement that is dated to the 13th century and has very old murals.

In the settlement are hotels, rooms for rent and many good coastal tavernas. It is the ideal choice for visitors seeking peace and quiet in a beautiful environment.

Marmara

The small village of Marmara took its name from the marbles that embellished the mansions and the churches of the village. It is a lovely village with whitewashed narrow lanes and flowered courtyards.

There are old mansions and churches, such as the Metropolitan Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Agios Savvas, Agios Anargyri, the Church of the Metamorphosis of Christ and others. The main attraction of the village is the Church of the Pera Madonna which dates back to the 17th century, a splendid example of Aegean architecture.

From Marmara there is access to the eastern beaches of the island: Molos, Kalogeros, Tsoukalia and Glyfades.

Marpissa

Marpissa is a traditional village that is located 17 km from the harbour of Paroikia and 12 km from Naoussa. The village is built amphitheatrically on a hill and is characterised by its traditional whitewashed houses, picturesque windmills, narrow alleys and Byzantine churches.

Easter in Marpissa is unique. The whole of the Easter week is memorable, but, Good Friday is an experience not to be missed. The unique customs on this day date back to 1937. The events are completed with the Feast of Love that takes place on Easter Sunday.

From Marpissa the approach to the more popular beaches of the island is easy, such as Dryo, Piso Livadi, Logora, Pounda, Chrissi Akti and the Neo Chrissi Akti.
