The seaside village of Agia Marina is located 9 km west of Chania. This easily accessible beach is covered with fine sand and is ideal for all types of sea sports.
The Gramvoussa peninsula is located on the north western end of the island of Crete. The magical Balos Beach is wide with fine white and red sand as well as a natural small sea lagoon. Access is by sea from the port of Kissamos or on foot along a track from a point where the road ends.
Falasarna Beach is located 59 km west of Chania and is regarded as the most beautiful on Crete. This beach has received many awards and is included in the list of the most beautiful in Europe, a 3 km long beach of fine white sand and crystal clear waters.
Georgioupoli is a seaside resort town just a few kilometres from Rethymnon on the north coast of Crete with a sandy beach that is 10 km long. The Alimos River coming from Kourna Lake empties into the sea here.
The islet of Elafonissi is at the south-western end of the island of Crete and just 100 m from the Crete’s shore. The white sandy beach has shallow crystal clear waters. Access to the islet is by kayak from Paleohora or walking from the shore of Chryssoskalitsas where the waters are very shallow.
The resort town of Paleohora is on the south coast of Crete 70 km from Chania. The town has two beaches which have been awarded with the European Blue flag, one with fine sand and the other with large pebbles, offering organised sea sports.
Frangokastello is located on the south coast 11 km from Hora Sfakion and is known for its Venetian fort. Beside the fort is the scenic golden sandy beach and close by are numerous other small coves well protected from the wind.
Sougia is a lovely seaside village 67 km from Chania. Its beach has small pebbles and crystal clear deep waters. The smaller coves close by are popular for nudism enthusiasts. Access to Sougia is through the scenic mountains.
