The Archaeological Museum of Argostoli was built in 1960.

The museum houses antiquities from the island of Kefalonia, ranging from the prehistoric to the Roman periods and also has a remarkable collection of Mycenaean findings. The most important items of the exhibition are:

A Mycenaean drinking cup found at the Mycenaean cemetery of Lakkithra that dates back to the 12th century B.C.

A Bronze fibula found at the Mycenaean cemetery of Diakata dating back to the 12th century B.C.

A Large, two-handled crater found at the cemetery of Diakata dating back to the 12th century B.C.

A Gold necklace found at the Mycenaean cemetery of Lakkithra.

Historical and Folk Art Museum

The Historical and Folk Art Museum is located in the center of Argostoli and was founded in 1962 by Eleni Kembitsi-Kosmetatou. The Museum exhibits local costumes, furniture and embroidery of Kefalonia.

Other exhibits include heirlooms and other ecclesiastic items, pictures, paintings, maps, manuscripts, coins, jewels, silver and metal craftworks and much more. At the museum's basement, the Historical Archives of Kefalonia historical manuscripts from the 16th-19th centuries are displayed, depicting several historical periods and an important collection of more than 3000 photos.
