Mycenaean Tomb

Outside Tzanata village, in the area of Bortzi, a great vaulted tomb of the Mycenaean era was discovered. The tomb dates back to the 13th century B.C. and belonged to a high-ranking officer. It is the best-preserved tomb ever found on the island rich in archaeological findings, revealing the existence of a significant Mycenaean centre in the area.

Outside Rozata village, in the area of Koutavos the ruins of the walls, of the ancient town Krani are found. These walls, having about 4km perimeter date back to the 7th and the 6th century B.C.

They were named Cyclopean Walls due to their size. It was a giant work of fortification, sculptured in rock. In that particular area ruins of buildings were also found as well as the ruins of a temple dedicated to Dimitra mother of Persefoni.

The Cave of Drakena

The cave of Drakena is located at the south of Bohinas at an altitude of 70 meters.

In the cave’s rocks there is evidence that during the Prehistoric Era it was used as a settlement. Furthermore, it was used during the Historic Years and the Hellenistic Period as the temple of Nymphs. Findings consist mainly of ceramic worship utensils, idols- mainly female- and animals' bones from sacrifices. There are also found some interventions in the cave, like walls, fire places and ground- floors.
